Training & development
At Baker Tilly, first-class training comes as standard - not just for formal exams, but also in soft skills, such as problem-solving and client service. From day one, you’ll find everyone here is willing you to succeed.
Typically our graduates take a three year course to qualify as chartered accountants.
We pay for all study and revision courses at your first attempt and support you through courses and exam leave.
We also have graduates studying:
- Certified Accounting (ACCA)
- Accounting Technician (AAT)
- Public Finance Accounting (CIPFA)
- Chartered Institute of Taxation (ATII/CTA)
- Restructuring and Recovery (JIEB and CPI)
- Corporate Finance exams
- Institute of Indirect Tax exams
- Marketing (CIM)
- Human Resources (CIPD)
- IT (various qualifications).
At Baker Tilly, you have the opportunity to specialise wherever you want.
Every office has its own exam training manager who’ll be there to help you every step of the way, keeping in touch with your college and, if necessary, organising extra tuition. Your office appraisal manager will also be monitoring your overall progress and giving you all the advice you need in your early years with Baker Tilly.
Our innovative, three year, structured programme of residential student development covers a plethora of disciplines, including commercial awareness and business skills, audit, tax, management development, business development and personal skills. It’s also a great chance to meet colleagues from other offices and start building your own Baker Tilly network.
We’ll give you the choice of six career paths so you can choose the direction which best suits your skills and interests. They are:
- audit
- business services
- restructuring and recovery
- corporate finance
- public sector audit
- taxation services.
It’s no coincidence that by offering every possible kind of support with training, our graduates have a pass rate which is significantly higher than the national average.

What happens after qualification?
Once you’ve qualified, our commitment doesn't stop there. We take the development of people very seriously and invest significant time and energy into ensuring that we retain and develop the fantastic individuals that we have working for us. Two examples of our Talent Programmes are:
- Executive Development Programme (EDP)
- Transition.
EDP
EDP centres around developing the Partners of the future, identifying Managers and Seniors Managers who have the potential to progress to Partnership within a 2-3 year period. A programme of assessment and structured development ensures that candidates receive all the support and development they need to prepare them for the role of a Partner.
Transition
In 2007, we launched our Transition programme for potential Managers. It is a 2-day programme, which consists of training and observed activities, resulting in a detailed and totally individual development plan.
This allows us to provide the best possible support to our talented people as they prepare for their first management role, ensuring that ongoing career development stays high on everyone's agenda.
