Frequently asked questions
I'd like to apply. What should I do?
We post all of our opportunities on this Careers website. Click on the link called 'Current vacancies' in the left hand menu. You'll be asked to select a vacancy from a specific location and fill in a short application form as well as provide a copy of your CV online.
We’re unable to accept CVs directly through the ‘Contact Us’ option.
How will Baker Tilly keep in touch with me once I’ve applied?
We usually contact you by email, but if you prefer another method then please let us know.
Is there a deadline for applications?
In some instances, we do have closing dates for applications, whereas other vacancies are open. Please check individual vacancy details for further information.
I've submitted my application and now realise that I need to amend it. Can I do so and resubmit?
We’re happy to make any changes or amendments once you’ve submitted your application to us. If your circumstances change, whether it’s your address or phone number, just get in touch.
How easy is it to change faculties within Baker Tilly?
In a word, very. We take your development seriously and we’ll do everything possible to accommodate individual preferences alongside the needs of the business.
Do you support further studies?
We provide full study support for relevant professional qualifications.
If I've recently applied online, how long will it be until I hear from you about my application?
Once you’ve applied online, we’ll be back in touch within 14 days.
What's the format of the interview?
Your first interview will be held locally with a senior member of our team. This will concentrate on your experience, attributes and professional goals. If you’re then shortlisted, a second local interview will take place. This one will give you the opportunity to show your breadth of experience and demonstrate what you can do. More than that, it’s a chance to make sure that you like us as much as we like you.
What can I expect during my first three months with Baker Tilly?
First of all, a full induction will help you to understand Baker Tilly. Your line manager will also discuss what we’re looking for from you. Prepare yourself for an active social calendar!
Do you offer flexible working and how often can I apply?
We will give full consideration to all requests for flexible working patterns.
Will I get the chance to get involved in Business Development work?
Most definitely. We actively encourage our people to participate in a variety of business development activity. What shape that takes will depend on your preferences and abilities.
Will I be put into a specialist sector group?
The vast majority of managers have a general portfolio of clients. Some have specialisms, but this is normally limited to a certain proportion of their overall client portfolio. If you’d like to ultimately move towards management and partnership, this experience can be invaluable.
Do you sponsor work permits for international applicants?
Candidates who require work permits will be subject to the same application and selection process as candidates who have the right to work in the UK. Applications for work permits are made if you are successful in all stages of the recruitment process, have received and accepted an offer from us, and we have seen proof of your qualifications. Any job offered is subject to successful attainment of a work permit. All recruitment activity takes place in the UK, which means international applicants will be required to travel to one of our UK offices. Travel expenses of up to £100 will be reimbursed.
If you do require us to sponsor a work permit on your behalf, please complete the ‘Special requirements’ section on the application form accordingly.
Please note that employers are required by law to confirm that their employees are eligible to work in the UK, and this check is carried out before your first day at work. If you’re unsure about your eligibility to work in the UK, please see http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk for more information.
You’ve made reference to secondments. How do they work?
There’s a whole world of options open to you with Baker Tilly, from working overseas to transferring between offices or joining an external company. For instance, our Restructuring and Recovery department often second colleagues to work in a bank, helping them to understand how the entire process works.
International secondments are via our membership of Baker Tilly International and have taken place in a number of countries, including Australia and the USA.
Do you sponsor studies for any courses outside of Accountancy/Taxation?
Yes, we do. A lot of our people are studying for qualifications in Marketing (CIM) and Human Resources (CIPD), to name just two.
What if I want to transfer training contract from another accountancy firm to Baker Tilly?
The training contract is a legally binding contract and it is expected that the training organisation and the student to remain mutually committed to each other for its full duration. For genuine and acceptable reasons, a training contract may be transferred - but only with the consent of both parties.
I’m a recruitment agent. How do I obtain access to your system to submit CV’s on behalf of my candidates?
As part of our recruitment process, Baker Tilly operate a national preferred supplier list of appointed agencies. Only appointed agencies are given access to our system to submit CVs.
